Hereditary is an exploration of inherited family doctrines and the processes by which I have been able to break away.
The plaster sculptures are born from a process of failure: a process of not wishing to obey correct procedure. Pursuing an intentionally incorrect material process triggered emotional disturbances, ranging from disbelief to distress and the reminder of an old childhood rule, "Don’t show your failures and hide what is imperfect."
The sculptures attempt to address this by contrasting the shape of the mold with the subtle lines of the central form.
As the series progresses, the interior is being exposed, as is the personal revelation that no mistake can be judged a failure.
